Stick With Your Plan, Avoid Temptations

Sticking with your plan that you have set will be difficult at times. The hardest part of following your plan will be the very beginning.

The beginning is the hardest part because starting something new that you aren’t used to because it isn’t natural for you. Getting in the routine of things will take time. Always tell yourself during the first two weeks, that you just need to get through the first two weeks, and then it will be easier.

After the first two weeks your body will begin to get into the swing of things and your routine will eventually become natural.

It is important to not have any temptations lurking around your kitchen. If you have candy or a pint of ice cream in your freezer you will be more likely to indulge in it and face a setback for your plan.

When going grocery shopping avoid buying any sort of food item that will go against your goal. Even if you claim to have a strong sense of strong will, there still could be an instance where you will be tempted because the object is easily in your reach.

Once you remove all sorts of temptations from your house when the craving will less likely strike because you know it isn’t accessible at that moment.

TIP: Most cravings could be a sign that you are dehydrated. So before indulging drink a glass of water and see if you still are having that craving, in most cases you’ll realize you were just thirsty.

If you and a friend are both participating in the same plan and goal, motivate it each other to stay on the right track. Keep each other countable by asking what the other ate that day, and asking if they are having any problems with their plan. Also, if there is ever a moment where you feel as though you need to give in to your craving, call your accountability friend. Talk to them and let them know that you are having a craving and then there might be the instance where they simply will talk to you out of eating that bag of chips.

Asking yourself these simple questions will help you before you decide to indulge:

  • Do I need it?
  • Do I just want it?
  • Will it set me back from my goal?
  • Is it worth it?

After asking yourself these questions, you may or may not decide to indulge.

Remember it isn’t bad to indulge on something you are craving. Giving into your cravings in moderation is okay. If each day you choose one thing to indulge in, whether it be a small piece of cake, or half of a candy bar it is better than not eating it when you crave it because the chances of you overindulging and binging a few weeks later will increase. Moderation is the key. Never eat the whole candy bar or a whole bag of chips.

Eat slowly and drink sips of water in between bits. As you are eating that special indulgence think about the texture and the richness of it.

TIP: If you are feeling a strong craving one day go read a book or write in your journal. Most cravings last 15 minutes and go away after then.
